SLO Village got a brand-new brand

This January we launched our two-year SLO Village strategic plan with this primary objective: to grow our membership, volunteer base, community partnerships and corporate sponsors. Our first action step of that plan is to better tell and share our story with a complete rebrand..

Our Rebrand Objective is twofold:

  • To more clearly define SLO Village: who we are; what we’re about; and who, where and how we serve.
  • And to differentiate us from The Villages brand. Clearly communicating that were not a place to live, but a way to live!

Name and Tagline:
We’ve added the word Movement to our name and the tagline ‘Embracing Life Together’ to clearly communicate our mission and to identify and align with the international Village Movement.

Mission:
We believe our new name and brand perfectly imparts our mission: empowering older adults to sustain independence and continue living lives of purpose and promise through community, social connection, personal growth, kindness, support and helpful services.

April–May Newsletter: Growing into Opportunities

This season, the SLO Village Movement is leaning into growth—in programs and purpose. Our newest newsletter is live and full of heart.

We pay tribute to the beloved Paul Wolff, whose legacy continues to guide our work. We recap a lively April coffee chat, preview meaningful May activities, and share a save the date for our big June fundraiser.

It’s a season of reflection, connection, and looking ahead.

Whimsey & Connection:

Work Anniversaries, Coastal Retreat, and a Whole Lot of Heart
 Celebrating Corene & Tami

Some anniversaries are marked with cake. Others with confetti. But here at the SLO Village Movement, we prefer a little coastal whimsy and a road trip with meaning.

This month, we’re celebrating Corene’s four-year anniversary as our unstoppable Operations Manager and Tami’s one-year anniversary as our inspiring Executive Director. These two powerhouses have steered the ship through calm seas and choppy waters, always with grit, grace, and more than a few well-timed laughs.

To mark the occasion, they hit the road for a mini "work retreat" up the coast—visiting Harmony (yes, it’s a real place) and Ragged Point, where the fog was thick but the vision was clear. It wasn’t all spreadsheets and strategy sessions—they made space for reflection and laughter.

Why the coast? Because growth doesn’t always happen in front of a computer. Sometimes, it’s in the quiet pause, the ocean breeze, or a quirky pottery shop in Harmony.

Want to hear what they took away from the journey?    Check out our Facebook page for photos and reflections from the road.

Here’s to another year of vision, leadership, and making waves—together.

It Takes A Village

By 2030, California will be home to 10.8 million older adults, accounting for one-quarter of the state’s population. 34% of our state’s older adults will be moderate- and middle-income, without Medicaid benefits. California is responding to these demographic changes by implementing a Master Plan for Aging.
